BELIEVE IN YOU – A Journey of Self-Discovery

En route my journey home after close of business, I reflected on all the activities of the day and how much I had been able to do. It was one of the days where I was part of several meetings which I wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about attending.

I was always self-conscious in those meetings and constantly felt I needed to be seen as extremely intelligent. That was the only way I could come out of the meetings feeling good about myself. It put so much pressure on me that I always came out feeling really exhausted.
Making my way home, I thought to myself, But is it only about you? Does A, B, or C’s opinion – good or bad – really determine who you really are?
These were rhetorical questions. I already had their answers. With the consciousness of those answers, the pressure on my shoulder eased off. I shook my head as a smile escaped from my lips. I was back in sync.

Considering how fast I seemed to call my thoughts and feelings to order, someone might say, ‘I am different. My self-esteem is quite low. I am really shattered and I amount to really nothing.’ However, you need to know that, just like me, you are making it about you. You are the one tagging your inadequacies.
What if I told you that I constantly struggle with these thoughts of inadequacy? Would that make you feel any better? Do you know about the daily pressure to appear perfect so that others can approve of me?
How do I handle the pressure? I had to understand that I may never be able to control outcomes or reactions from others. I, therefore, focused on being at peace with myself, believing in me to do my part.

Believing in you guarantees a lot. However, it is not something you achieve in a moment. It is a journey. I am on that journey and I am not even there yet. I am still in the process.
If you have ever felt like I did, I challenge you to go on this journey with me. What you will be reading from the following chapters are glimpses into my journey of believing. In this book are some practical experiences, straight from the heart. It will be worth your energy and time.

You compete with you. Wow! I like that she teaches us that our greatest competition is not on the outside but ourselves. By competing with your self you’re playing a long game and the journey is transformative.
